Thinking Visually
....capturing a story as it unfolds
Everything you wanted to know about oysters.....
This short piece came about as an assignment for my video journalism class at Georgetown University. The assignment was called, "Man on the street", where we had to interview a stranger doing something. I got invited to a beach house on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and took all of my camera equipment in hopes of finding the perfect stranger. This guy was more than happy to tell me everything he knew about oysters. Meet Bobby from the Outer Banks.

Teaching Kids Behind Bars
This is another short piece that goes behind the scenes in a local juvenile detention center. My primary focus was trying to capture exactly what happens while juveniles are awaiting trial or sentencing. The law mandates 5 1/2 hours of education a day, and often this is the only productive time these young people may have in the course of their entire day. There is limited to no free time, zero technology, and many get few, if any, visitors. There are folks out there working with these offenders, many of whom feel as if this is their last chance to make a difference. Follow Lisa Gray, the principal of the Prince William Juvenile Detention Center, as she walks us through this school behind bars.
